"...without a large army of men and women who are happy to work without a financial reward, a high proportion of ...museums would find it very difficult, if not impossible, to continue."

Kenneth Hudson
Former Chairman of the Museums Forum

Heritage Volunteers help to conserve our heritage both in Britain and in parts of Europe.

Conservation and preservation of our heritage are tremendous burdens on the limited resources of museums, National Trust properties, historic houses, libraries and gardens.

Volunteers help them in non-specialist but vital ways, by caring for collections, recording documents, guiding and stewarding.

Appropriate training is given to all Heritage Volunteers by professional conservators, curators and advisors.

Members of NADFAS have the opportunity of helping conserve and record our artistic heritage on a voluntary basis. LDFAS currently has Heritage Volunteers cleaning rare and valuable books in the Oak Library (part of the Central Library, Liverpool), and at the Athenaeum, also at Knowsley Hall. Other volunteers have been preparing items from many departments of Liverpool University for the new Victoria Gallery and Museum which opened to the public in July 2008.
